Johann Jakob Ignaz Sendtner (born July 31, 1784 in Munich , † June 11, 1833 there ) was a German editor and publisher , writer , librettist , librarian , philologist and associate professor.

Life

Jakob Sendtner was the son of the middle-class salt pusher Michael Sendtner from Munich and his wife Anna, née Deirl, and had a brother named Joseph.

According to research by Riezler researcher Adolf Roth, he was the first academic in his line. After graduating from high school in 1803 at the (today's) Wilhelmsgymnasium in Munich , he completed the mandatory two-year basic course (= philosophy) at the adjoining lyceum. From 1805 to 1810 he studied at the University of Landshut and at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg .

Teaching

After completing his studies, he taught at the Lyceum in Munich until 1826 and then as an associate professor for aesthetics and the history of beautiful literature at the Royal Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich .

Further work

From September 1, 1810 until his death, Sendtner was editor of the Munich political newspaper . In the years 1810 and 1811 he published the Allgemeine Oberdeutsche Litteratur-Zeitung and from 1811 to 1815 the society paper for educated classes .

In the period from 1813 to 1818 Sendtner played a key role in the reorganization of the Bavarian Court and State Library .

In 1832 he published the Altbayern newspaper in Munich , a weekly political paper published by Lindauer. He died the following summer.

family

Sendtner married Barbara "Betty" Wolf in 1812 , daughter of the publisher Peter Philipp Wolf and sister of the painter Louise Wolf . The marriage resulted in a total of seven children, the most famous among them the botanist Otto Sendtner and the lawyer Theodor von Sendtner . One daughter, who worked as an educator in the Pocci house , died in 1846 at the age of 26, another married a mechanic named Nickl from Traunstein , son Hippolyth became a mechanic, wanted to emigrate and has disappeared, and a daughter named Ottilie, born in 1816, died in 1894, unable to live Neuberghausen Abbey . Daughter Alphonsine (1818-1894) was the second wife of the businessman and lawyer Joseph Riezler . The historian Sigmund von Riezler , the Bavarian major general Emanuel Riezler and the painter Albrecht Riezler emerged from this marriage.

Jakob Sendtner's grave, like that of his wife, is located in Munich on the Altes Südfriedhof .
