Jakob Nagel (politician)

Jacob Nagel (* the thirtieth September 1790 in Teufen , † 8. June 1841 ibid ; heimatberechtigt ) was a Swiss Diet envoy , Landammann and doctor from the canton of Appenzell Outer Rhodes .

Life

Jakob Nagel was the son of Jakob Nagel, doctor and councilor , and Anna Hohl. In 1814 he married Anna Barbara Kölbener, daughter of Sebastian Kölbener.

Nagel received private tuition and later studied in Zurich , Bern and from 1807 to 1809 in Tübingen . In 1810 he entered his father 's medical practice without a degree . Later he also took over this. Nagel was a battalion doctor in federal campaigns in 1813 and 1815 . In 1823 he was a co-founder of the cantonal private fire insurance company and remained its president until 1832.

Nagel has been active in politics and served from 1817 to 1824 as a councilor in Teufen and then from 1824 to 1829 as a community Captain , Municipal Secretary and Grand Council . He held the office of governor from 1829 to 1832 . From 1830 to 1838 he was the delegate of the Diet of Appenzell Ausserrhodens. In addition, Nagel was also the Federal Commissioner from 1832 to 1833 to settle the turmoil in the divided canton of Basel and the canton of Schwyz . From 1832 to 1839 he then officiated as Ausserrhoder Landammann . In this function, Nagel was the driving force behind the cantonal constitutional revision in 1834. He particularly advocated freedom of the press and the separation of powers . Nagel kept a diary and carefully recorded his meetings and letters .
