Jakob "Kuba" Ziemnicki (* 1975 in Gdansk , Poland) is a German-Polish film director and screenwriter.

Life

Shortly before the proclamation of martial law, Ziemnicki's family emigrated to Germany. Since 1980 Jakob Ziemnicki grew up in Cologne, where he discovered his enthusiasm for film. Together with Philipp Stennert , he began to make short films during school days at the Kreuzgasse grammar school . In 1998 the first feature film "Dark" followed. For 10,000 DM he shot a 90-minute feature film together with Philipp Stennert and Sascha Verhey, which was shown at the Fantasy Film Festival, among other places.

From 1998 to 2004 Jakob Ziemnicki studied film directing and screenwriting at the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy . It was there that the films "The ball is damned round", "Et kütt wie et kütt" and "Tompson Music" were made. "Tompson Music" based on the short story "Hunter Tompson Music" from "Summer House Later" by Judith Hermann was his diploma film. He was nominated for the First Steps Award and the Prix Europa in 2004. It was also the first film adaptation of a short story by Judith Hermann.
