Jaltomata sagastegui is a plant type from the genus jaltomata in the family of the nightshade family (Solanaceae). It was first described in 1996.

description

Jaltomata sagastegui are branching shrubs that can reach a height of 1 m. The young shoots are slightly square or pentagonal, the woody shoots are brown and round. On the young shoots there are about 0.4 mm long, tree-like branched trichomes , rarely forked or unbranched. The blade of the often paired leaves is egg-shaped, the tip occasionally tapering to a point, the edge is entire or curved, the size is 3.2 to 14 × 1 to 6.5 cm. The leaves are tomentose on both sides with unbranched and tree-shaped branched trichomes 0.04 to 0.22 mm long.

The occasionally branched inflorescences consist of up to twelve flowers , which stand on 4.5 to 7 mm long peduncle, which in turn stand on a 9.5 to 28 mm long peduncle. During the flowering phase, the calyx is colored green, 5.1 to 6.5 mm long and has bent lobes up to 2.6 mm long, the space between the lobes is 1.2 mm. The outside of the calyx is densely tomentose with branched trichomes. The crown is short-tubular with a wheel-shaped coronet, on which in turn five corolla lobes alternate with five very small to nonexistent lobes. The petals are white except for two purple spots on both sides of the main vein of the petals. The flower has a diameter of 11 to 14 mm and a length of 4.5 mm, the corolla tube has a diameter of 4.5 mm. The stamens do not protrude beyond the corolla tube, they are 3.2 to 3.4 mm long. The lower 40 to 50% of the stamens are covered with unbranched trichomes up to 0.5 mm long. The unopened anthers are 1.6 to 2.0 × 1.3 to 1.5 mm long. The anthers of a flower contain about 75,000 to 93,000 pollen grains , which have a size of about 25 to 30 µm. The stigma has a diameter of 0.33 to 0.6 mm and stands on a 3.5 to 5.4 mm long stylus , which protrudes 1 to 3 mm over the stamens. About 56 to 87 ovules are formed per carpel .

The fruit is a yellow-orange or orange berry with a diameter of 5 to 8 mm. The calyx tips have a size of 4.5 mm on the fruit and are up to 3 mm apart.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.

Occurrence

The species occurs in the province of Contumazá in the department of Cajamarca in northern Peru . The local name of the plant is Canamuela , the fruits are eaten.

etymology
