James F. Amos
James F. Amos (born November 12, 1946 in Wendell , Idaho ) is a retired general in the United States Marine Corps . He was the 35th Commandant of the Marine Corps from October 22, 2010 to October 17, 2014 , previously serving as Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps from July 2008 to October 2010 .
Life
Amos is a graduate of the University of Idaho (1970). In the same year he became a soldier of the USMC. In 1971 he became a Naval Aviator . He led among other things, VMFA-312 , the Marine Aircraft Group 31 , the squadron 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing ( Operation Enduring Freedom in 2003 and 2004), II MEF (July 2004 July 2006) and the Marine Corps Combat Development Command .
Amos was the first naval aviator in the history of the Marine Corps who, as its commandant, was responsible for the command of the armed forces.
