James Marshall (Director)

James Marshall  (born 1962 in New Westminster , British Columbia , Canada ) is a Canadian television director and producer . Best known are his work on the television series Smallville , for which has received multiple nominations and awards.

life and work

James Marshall was born in the city of New Westminster , British Columbia . His father worked as a switchman and his mother in retail. He attended secondary school in North Delta and then studied Applied Communication Science at Camosun College in Victoria .

The entry into the television business took place at a small television station in Alberta. There Marshall wrote and produced a nationally award-winning children's series Kids & Company. He later worked as a production assistant for the film In the Year of the Dragon . Before he became a director himself, he worked from 1987 to 1996 as an assistant director on a number of television films and over 30 series episodes, including The Bishop of the Devil , 21 Jump Street - crime scene classroom , Black, the Black Lightning , The Police Commissioner and Highlander . He has now directed over a hundred episodes from a wide variety of television series and also produced over 150 episodes, including Falling Skies , Smallville , Charlie's Angels , OC, California , Tarzan , Birds of Prey , Charmed - Magic Witches and Dead Like Me - As good as dead . For Smallville he has received numerous nominations and awards as director and producer.

He is a member of the Director's Guild of Canada and Director's Guild of America . Since 2011 he has also been working on the possibilities of transmedia storytelling . James Marshall is represented by the artist agency APA .

James Marshall has been married since 1985.

Smallville

James Marshall played an important role in the course of the series production of the television series Smallville , which ran for over ten years . After one of the main directors of the series, Greg Beeman , was no longer available due to his obligations in the television series Heroes , the showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar decided to work more with Marshall. After producing and directing many episodes, he also became an executive producer with the beginning of the fifth season . In this role he produced 83 episodes, in total he was involved in 149 episodes (out of a total of 186) in the production department.
