Charlie's Angels is an American drama series made by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar for the station ABC was developed. It was produced by Sony Pictures Television and Flower Films . It is based on the 1976 to 1981 broadcast television series Charlie's Angels by Ivan Goff and Ben Roberts . As Executive Producer acted Drew Barrymore , Alfred Gough, Leonard Goldberg and Marcos Siega , while Ember Truesdell and Chris Miller as producer were involved. Production for a pilot episode began on January 14, 2011. On May 13, 2011, ABC officially ordered Charlie's Angels as a series. The series premiered on September 22, 2011 on ABC .

Due to declining ratings, ABC announced on October 14, 2011 that the series would be canceled after only four episodes had been broadcast, and in the following weeks it showed the three fully-produced episodes on this slot. One episode produced went unaired in the United States.

In Germany, the pay TV broadcaster AXN broadcast all eight episodes of the series from May 17, 2012.

A broadcast on German free TV took place from October 10, 2012 in double episodes on the sixx channel .

action

Charlie's Angels is about a former policewoman , a mysterious street racer and a thief who are hired as private investigators in Miami by the unknown millionaire Charles "Charlie" Townsend . They receive their instructions over a speaker box while John Bosley, Charlie's right-hand man, assists them with their assignments.

characters

Kate Prince
Kate is a former police officer who was engaged to police officer Ray years earlier. He broke up with her because she became corrupt and left town. She is also a martial arts expert. During a later case, the two meet again and the four of them clarify the case. Before dinner together, they both reveal that they still have feelings for each other. Kate gives him back the engagement ring that she kept for three years (after the separation).
Eve French
She is a childhood friend of Gloria and a mysterious road racer. At the beginning of the first episode, Gloria is the third person in the trio. After the death of Gloria during the pilot episode, during which the other two women get to know Eve and she helps them solve the murder, Eve takes over this position at the end of the episode.
Abby Sampson
She is a thief and is therefore particularly good at picking locks and breaking in. Her father is serving a long prison term. She has not seen him or her siblings for several years. When the trio investigates a case, their father Abby has a decisive clue. He makes her promise that she will visit him regularly.
John "Bos" Bosley
Bos is Charlie's right-hand man and supports the angels with their assignments. In his earlier career he worked as a hacker, worked alone for a long time and later teamed up with a second hacker who was unknown to him. It was only in a later case that the Engel and Bosley received from a client that it turned out that this client was the former hacker partner. That's why she's targeting Bosley. He also had a previous relationship with a CIA agent who was demoted and transferred to Cuba because she was supposed to arrest him but let go because of her feelings. He was also with Charlie's daughter Elizabeth. She died. Bosley feels responsible for her death and thinks about her every day.

production

Plans for a remake of the original series had been in existence since late 2009 when screenwriter Josh Friedman , who wrote War of the Worlds and came up with the short-lived science fiction series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles , hired a script for a pilot episode to write. His script was eventually rejected, prompting ABC to commission Smallville creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar to write a new one. Executive producers were Drew Barrymore , Nancy Juvonen and Leonard Goldberg .

In an interview, Alfred Gough expressed his intention not to portray the series too "cheesy or retro". He said, "The characters are real and emotional, but they still love to have fun, wear great clothes, solve cases and kick some asses ... we hope to surprise people and bring a whole new generation to Charlie's Angels ". The pilot episode was staged by TV director Marcos Siega. Filming began on March 8, 2011 in Miami in the US state of Florida . On May 13, 2011, ABC officially ordered Charlie's Angels as a series.

In mid-October 2011, ABC announced the cancellation of the series due to declining audience ratings.

Casting

In January Annie Ilonzeh received the role of Kate Prince, Minka Kelly the role of Eve French, and Rachael Taylor the role of Abby Sampson. A month later, the role of John Bosley was cast with Ramón Rodríguez .

Originally, Robert Wagner was hired for the speaking role of Charlie, but was dismissed before the serial pilot was broadcast and replaced by Victor Garber .
