James Weisgerber

James Vernon Weisgerber OC SOM (born May 1, 1938 in Vibank ) is a Canadian clergyman and retired Archbishop of Winnipeg .

Life

James Vernon Weisgerber was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Regina on June 1, 1963 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Saskatoon on March 7, 1996 . The Archbishop of Regina , Peter Joseph Mallon , donated him episcopal consecration on May 3rd of the same year; Co- consecrators were Joseph Neil MacNeil , Archbishop of Edmonton , and Joseph Faber MacDonald , Archbishop of Grand Falls .

He was named Archbishop of Winnipeg on June 7, 2000 and inducted into office on August 24 of the same year.

On October 28, 2013, Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation.
