James "Jamie" Coyne (born January 2, 1981 in Sydney ) is an Australian football player . Coyne won two championship titles in the National Soccer League with Perth Glory and is the club's record player in the A-League, which has existed since 2005 .

Career

Jamie Coyne's father John was a professional footballer in England and came to Australia in the late 1970s, where he even made a few appearances in the Australian national team. Coyne grew up in New South Wales , about 12 years old he moved with his family to Western Australia and played there at Kingsway Olympic and was in junior teams of Western Australia for use. For the 1998/99 season he moved as an apprentice (German trainee) to the English club West Ham United , where at that time his older brother Chris was under contract. After a season he returned to Australia and spent the second half of the year at Kingsway Olympic after a trial at Perth Glory . In 2000 he moved to Perth SC in the Premier League of Western Australia and was there the following three seasons of service. In 2002 he won the league championship with the team, was part of the state selection and was named the best player in the league at the end of the season.

His performances also sparked interest at Perth Glory, the only West Australian club in the National Soccer League . From September 2002 he played for Perth Glory in the top Australian league, initially on loan, he received his first professional contract in October. Glory paid a transfer fee of about A $ 5,000, which could double depending on the stakes. While Coyne mostly played in the central midfield at Perth SC, he was initially called up as a central defender at Glory and eventually established himself as a right full-back. With the team around the two top strikers Damian Mori and Bobby Despotovski , Coyne won the Australian championship in 2003 and 2004. While he was only a supplementary player in 2003 and was not used in the final, he contributed to defending the title in 2004 as a regular player. In the final against Paramatta Power he was substituted after 95 minutes when the score was 0-0, three minutes later Perth won the championship title with a golden goal from Nik Mrdja . The final game was also the last game in the history of the National Soccer League, which was subsequently discontinued.

Like his teammates Anthony Danze , Adrian Caceres (both England), Mark Byrnes (Finland), Wayne Srhoj (Romania), Nik Mrdja (Sweden) and Jason Petkovic (Turkey), Coyne moved to Europe after the NSL was discontinued and signed a two- One year contract with the Dutch first division club ADO Den Haag . There Coyne did not succeed in establishing himself in the professional team and he only played one competitive game in the Dutch cup competition against FC Zwolle for ADO until his early departure in spring 2005 .

After an intended move to England, as he to sample training at in 2002 Luton Town and Carlisle United , had not materialized, he returned in March to Australia and rejoined Perth Glory on which a new team for the first season of the newly created professional league A-League put together. Glory did not succeed in the A-League to build on the successes from the NSL. In the first four seasons, Perth missed qualifying for the championship play-offs. In the 2008/09 season Coyne acted as team captain, the following season Jacob Burns took over the armband, who was next to Jason Petkovic and Jamie's brother Chris Coyne one of three national players who were newly signed for the 2009/10 season . With these reinforcements, the club managed to get into the play-off phase of the A-League for the first time in 2010, but there the team failed in the first game after penalties at Wellington Phoenix .

In the 2010/11 season , Coyne was on the starting line-up 23 times in the first 24 match days and only missed one game because of being sent off, but was no longer considered from the beginning of 2011. Coyne and the Australian players' union suspected a clause in Coyne's contract behind the sudden ban from the team, which would have guaranteed him an automatic contract extension for one year after 24 league appearances. Such a clause is said to have previously led his teammate Michael Baird to not be considered. Club coach Ian Ferguson , however, named Coynes form as the main reason for his reserve existence. Coyne did not appear on the last six match days despite numerous injury-related failures and his departure was confirmed by the club at the end of the season. With 118 league appearances, Jamie Coyne is Perth's record player in the A-League and, alongside Jamie Harnwell and Naum Sekulovski, was one of three players who were continuously in the squad from 2005 to 2011.

Coyne was subsequently in talks with league rivals Sydney FC , but the contractual disputes with Perth prevented them from being included in the group stage of the 2011 AFC Champions League , which will be played during the Australian break. In May 2011, he finally signed a two-year contract with Sydney. At Sydney he was part of the regular staff at the beginning of the 2011/12 season and scored his only goal of the season against Adelaide United on October 22, just days before he became a father for the first time. In early 2012, Coyne lost his regular place as right full-back to Rhyan Grant , who from then on enjoyed the trust of coach Vítězslav Lavička . At the end of the season, Coyne and the club agreed to the early termination of his contract, which was valid until 2013.

Coyne then moved to the Indonesian top club Sriwijaya FC with whom he won the 2011/12 championship. He was then briefly under contract with league competitor Persib Bandung from September to October 2012 , but the club dissolved this after a short time due to disputes about the apartment provided. In February 2013 Coyne signed a contract with A-League club Melbourne Heart until the end of the season and came to seven missions in the following weeks, but was not offered a contract extension at the end of the season and then played for Bayswater City SC in the top division of Western Australia.

Unlike his brother, Jamie Coyne was not allowed to work for an Australian national team. It wasn't enough for more than one invitation to a two-day training camp for the national team in early 2008, in which 22 A-League players took part.
