Jan Drozg (born April 1, 1999 in Maribor ) is a Slovenian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Cataractes de Shawinigan in the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec since 2017 .
Career
Jan Drozg began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of HDK Maribor , for which he made his debut for the club's professional team in the Slovenian ice hockey league in the 2014/15 season . On loan, he also played for HK Celje in the Erste Bank Juniors League, where he was top scorer, top scorer in 2015 and also set up the most goals. The winger then moved to the youth division of the Swedish club Leksands IF , where he played for two years mainly in the U18 teams in the U18 Elit and the U18 Allsvenskan, but also occasionally in the U20 team in the J20 SuperElit . In 2016 he was drawn in the first round by the Huskies de Rouyn-Noranda in the CHL Import Draft as the 54th player, but initially stayed in Sweden. Then he was drafted the following year by the Cataractes de Shawinigan also in the first round as a total of 41st player and now decided to jump to Canada, where he has since played in the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec . In the same year he was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 5th round of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft as the 152nd player. From their farm team, the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins , he has been used once in the American Hockey League .
International
For Slovenia, Drozg took part in the U18 World Championships in Division I in 2015 , 2016 , when he was voted the best striker of the tournament and the best player on his team, and in 2017 , when he was again the best striker of the Tournament and best player of his team was chosen. He played with the Slovenian U20 team at the Junior World Championships in 2017 and 2018 , when he and the Poland Bartłomiej Jeziorski were the second top scorer after his compatriot Alan Łyszczarczyk and were voted the best player in his team, also in Division I.
In the senior division , he was in his country's squad for the first time at the Division I World Cup in 2018 .
