Johann Georg Heinsch

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann Georg Heinsch (also: Johann Georg Heintsch ; Czech: Jan Jiří Heinsch ; * probably 1647 in Glatz , County Glatz ; † September 9, 1712 in Prague ) was a German-Bohemian Baroque painter.

Life

Johann Georg Heinsch was the son of the Glatzer royal clerk and alder Joachim Franz Heinsch. His year of birth 1647 is not documented. There is also a lack of reliable data on his educational path. There are very contradicting information about his résumé. Since 1678 he was a prolific, wealthy artist based in Prague, where he had acquired citizenship. After the death of his first wife, he entered the barefoot Augustinian monastery in Bělá pod Bezdězem in 1702 , which he left before the end of the novitiate . His second wife, whom he married in 1704, was a bourgeois daughter.

His artistic role model is said to have been the famous baroque painter Karl Skreta . Heinsch painted numerous altarpieces in the conventional style, mainly for Prague churches. Most of the clients were the monasteries of the Jesuits , the Lords of the Cross and the Augustinians . Many of his works were in monastery churches that were repealed during the Josephine reforms . Some of these paintings are considered lost, others are still preserved in museums, e.g. B. in the National Gallery in Prague and in the City Galleries of Raudnitz and Velvary .
