Jan Münster (born November 19, 1979 in Lüneburg ) is a former German ice hockey goalkeeper who played for the Hannover Scorpions , Berlin Capitals , Kassel Huskies and Augsburger Panther in the German Ice Hockey League during his active career between 1999 and 2011 .

Career

After Münster had won two German championships with the juniors of the BSC Preussen Berlin , he signed his first professional contract with the Hannover Scorpions in the summer of 1999 and made his debut in the German Ice Hockey League on September 10, 1999 . Two years later he returned to Berlin and played for the successor club of BSC Preussen, the Berlin Capitals , in the DEL. However, this commitment ended after one year when the Capitals went bankrupt . In the 2002/03 season he moved to the Kassel Huskies after he had previously failed in the test training of the San Diego Gulls in the West Coast Hockey League .

Münster spent its most successful time personally with the Kassel Huskies. For no other club did he play more in the DEL than for the Huskies. In November 2002 he was voted DEL player of the month by experts and led the huskies to the final of the German Ice Hockey Cup in the 2003/04 season . The newly signed coach Mike McParland did not use him in the final. After another foreign goalkeeper, the Canadian Corey Hirsch , was committed in the course of the 2004/05 season , Münster moved to the Landshut Cannibals in the 2nd Bundesliga to get more match practice. From 2005 to 2007 Münster played with Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg in the 2nd Bundesliga. Due to a protracted hip injury, the goalkeeper was only able to play a few games for Wolfsburg. Only at the end of the 2006/07 season was Münster rehabilitated and thus in the squad in time to celebrate with the team winning the championship in the 2nd Bundesliga and the associated promotion to the DEL.

Despite a valid contract for the 2007/08 season , those responsible for Grizzly Adams no longer wanted to rely on the convalescent and signed national goalkeeper Oliver Jonas . The club's management agreed with Münster to terminate the contract. After he had spent the preparation for the 2007/08 season with the Las Vegas Wranglers in the ECHL , he moved in November 2007 as a substitute goalkeeper for the Augsburg Panthers in the DEL. In the 2008/09 season , Münster played for the Amstel Tijgers Amsterdam in the Dutch Eredivisie and was able to collect regular match practice there for the first time since his hip injury in 2006. The 2009/10 game year began in Münster with the up-and-coming Blue Lions Leipzig in the Regionalliga Ost . When there were financial difficulties there due to the overpriced squad, the Hanover Indians from the 2nd Bundesliga signed Münster for the rest of the season.

After his long-term hip injury, minor injuries made life difficult for Münster as a professional ice hockey player, so that he subsequently shifted his focus to his studies. During a semester abroad in Paris , he played a few games for HC Cergy-Pontoise in Division 1 in France in the 2010/11 season and then ended his active career.
