Jan Matouš (born May 30, 1961 in Vrchlabí ) is a former Czechoslovak biathlete . He participated in several Winter Olympic Games and Biathlon World Championships .

Jan Matouš was a successful biathlete in the 1980s and one of the best biathletes in Czechoslovakia in his playing days. He competed for ŠKP Jablonec Rudá Hvězda . In the Biathlon World Cup he finished sixth in an individual in Falun, making it into the top ten for the first time. At the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo , he achieved good results by finishing ninth in the sprint, tenth in the individual and sixth in the relay. The biathlon world championships in 1985 and 1986 also produced good results. In 1985 he came in 17th in the individual and 26th in the sprint in Ruhpolding , in 1986 at Holmenkollen in Oslo he was 13th in the individual and fifth in the sprint. In his best year as a biathlete he was in 1987 both third behind Frank-Peter Roetsch and Fritz Fischer in the overall World Cup and third in the singles at the Biathlon World Championships 1987 in Lake Placid . He even won a World Cup individual in Borovets . In the sprint he was 13th. 1998 Matouš started for the second time, now in Calgary at the Winter Olympics and reached places 16 in the sprint, 14 in the pursuit and was eleventh in the relay race with the relay of Czechoslovakia. The Czech achieved another international success at the Biathlon World Championships in Oslo in 1990 , where he won the silver medal with Tomáš Kos , Ivan Masařík and Jiří Holubec in the team competition behind the GDR team. Also in Lahti , Matouš was able to achieve a final good result in a major event at the 1991 Biathlon World Championships as fifth in the team competition. After the season he ended his active career and started working for the Czech Association.
