Jason Demetriou (born November 18, 1987 in Newham , London , England ) is an English Cypriot football player on the position of midfielder . He held various positions at his actual parent club, Leyton Orient. He was found in the position of a right full-back as well as the positions of a winger or central midfielder. He currently plays for AEK Larnaka in Cyprus' First Division , the country's top division.

Career

Career start at Leyton Orient

After Demetriou was born in the London Borough of Newham, at the beginning of his football career he moved to the northern neighboring Borough of Waltham Forest , where he joined the youth division of Leyton Orient . There he went through all youth leagues and the reserve team before he was appointed to the professional team for the first time for the 2005/06 season . The team was still playing in the fourth-class English professional league, Football League Two, this season . On October 18, 2005 Demetriou came here to his competitive debut for the professionals when he was substituted on in a game of the Football League Trophy against Yeovil Town in the 87th minute for Wayne Carlisle . After Demetriou also played in the second round match against Oxford United , the team dropped out of the current competition early on. In the league, however, things went better for Leyton Orient. On February 18, 2006, the young midfielder made his league debut when he came in the 89th minute of the game for Irish Daryl McMahon in the 2-0 away win over the now defunct club Chester City . Another two missions, including his starting line-up against Cheltenham Town in which he prepared the 1-0 winning goal from Paul Connor , followed before the team made it to Football League One at the end of the season in third place .

Equipped with a professional contract for the summer break, he made 15 league appearances (2 goals), three appearances in the League Cup and one appearance in the Football League Trophy in the 2006/07 season . His first professional goal scored the 1.80 m tall player in right midfield on February 13, 2007 in a 4-1 home defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion . With the team he only just managed to stay in the league at the end of the season and thus to remain in England's third division. The following season 2007/08 went much better for Jason Demetriou than the previous one. The more defensive midfielder became a regular at Leyton Orient and made 43 out of 46 possible league appearances throughout the season, in which he scored three goals for his team. After he performed well on the side of Adam Chambers , the team even made it to 14th place in the final table, which meant a place in the middle of the table.

The 2008/09 season went just as well , in which Demetriou again made 43 league appearances and scored four goals. After struggling with eight yellow cards in the previous season, Demetriou, who played in defensive midfield, received seven yellow cards as well as one red in the 2008/09 season. As in the 2007/08 season, the team reached 14th place in the final table and was almost never involved in the relegation battle with his team. At the beginning of 2009, several English and Welsh clubs showed interest in the versatile Leyton Orient player. In addition to Queens Park Rangers , Charlton Athletic and Cardiff City , Plymouth Argyle was also interested in Demetriou. The latter club even made an offer of 750,000 £ . At the end of the season he was chosen by the Leyton Orient fans as the player of the past season.

In the 2009/10 season , the 21- and 22-year-olds placed greater emphasis on the defense of Leyton Orient, which is why he only hit the opponent's goal once in his 39 league appearances. As in the 2006/07 season, he only just got away with relegation with the team.

Change to Cyprus

At the end of the season, a change Demetrious became apparent after the player rejected a three-year contract offered by the club without further ado. At the beginning of June 2010 the young midfielder finally signed a well-paid contract with AEK Larnaka in the top Cypriot division. In an interview he said that he was afraid that he would not be able to continue his national team career and that he had turned down his contract with Leyton Orient.

National team career

In February 2009 Demetriou, who has Cypriot nationality through his father, was called up by the head coach of the Cypriot national team , Angelos Anastasiadis , for a friendly international match against Serbia during an international tournament in which Ukraine and Slovakia also took part. In the game on February 10, 2009 he was substituted on in the 64th minute of play for striker Dimitris Christofi . Another outing against Slovakia on the following day and a half-time action against Canada on May 30th followed in 2009. Demetriou was also briefly in Cyprus' squad that participated in qualifying for the 2010 World Cup.
