history
The square village was first mentioned in 1304 as Jaur or Jauwer . The manorial rule lay with the St. Marienstern Monastery , which meant that Jauer remained Catholic beyond the Reformation .
Jauer was an independent rural community until August 1, 1971, when it was incorporated into Panschwitz-Kuckau.
population
According to Arnošt Muka's statistics, 105 of the 108 inhabitants (97%) were Sorbs in 1884. In 1956 Ernst Tschernik determined that the Sorbian-speaking population was 79%.
