Jaume Collet-Serra (born March 23, 1974 in Sant Iscle de Vallalta , Province of Barcelona ) is an international Spanish film director and film producer . His best-known works are the thrillers Unknown Identity (2011) and Non-Stop (2014) with Liam Neeson in the title role.

life and career

A movie fanatic from childhood, Collet-Serra moved from his Catalan homeland to Los Angeles at the age of 18 and attended Columbia College Hollywood . He also worked as a film editor . He mentions directors such as David Fincher , Spike Jonze and Mark Romanek as cinematic influences .

His graduation film from film school was a music video that earned him an engagement as a music video director. As a result, he was able to establish himself as an advertising film director for large agencies and well-known brands. His surreal and often somber imagery caught the attention of film producer Joel Silver , who hired him to direct the horror film House of Wax , released in 2005 . Collet-Serra's second film in 2007 was the European football film Goal II - The dream is real! . He shot the horror thriller Orphan - Das Waisenkind (2009) for Joel Silver's Dark Castle Entertainment as well as his next film Unknown Identity , which was made under the working title Unknown White Male in early 2010 in collaboration with Studio Babelsberg in Berlin and Potsdam . The main roles in this thriller are played by Liam Neeson , Diane Kruger and January Jones . Numerous German-speaking actors are involved, including Sebastian Koch and Bruno Ganz . The film was invited to the 2011 Berlinale competition program for its international premiere , where it was shown out of competition.

In 2012, Collet-Serra directed the pilot of the horror series The River on US broadcaster ABC . In 2014 and 2015, two more films with Neeson in the lead role followed: Non-Stop and Run All Night . The two also cooperated on The Commuter from 2018.
