Jean-Louis Giasson

Jean-Louis Giasson PME (born December 7, 1939 in L'Islet , † February 12, 2014 in Canada) was Roman Catholic Bishop of Yoro ( Honduras ).

Life

Jean-Louis Giasson joined the religious order of the Société des Missions-Étrangères (PME) in 1965, made profession on May 13, 1965 and was ordained a priest on December 18, 1965 . In 1966 he went to Honduras as a missionary. He was parish vicar in Goascorán in the Department of Valle (1967), Spiritual (1970) and rector of the Minor Seminary "St. Joseph" in the capital Tegucigalpa (1971), priest of the Cathedral of Choluteca (1980), regional superior of his order in Honduras (1973) and 2003), pastor of El Corpus in the diocese of Choluteca (1986), spiritual and economist of the Seminario Menor Pablo VI (boys' seminar) in Choluteca and pastor of San José Obrero in Choluteca (1993).

Jean-Louis Giasson was Vicar General of the Diocese of Choluteca from 1991 to 2001 . Since 2003 he has been his order's regional director for Honduras.

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him bishop of Yoro on September 19, 2005 . The Archbishop of Tegucigalpa , Óscar Andrés Cardinal Rodríguez Maradiaga SDB , donated him episcopal ordination on December 12 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Raúl Corriveau PME, Bishop of Choluteca, and Luis Alfonso Santos Villeda SDB, Bishop of Santa Rosa de Copán .

Pope Francis accepted his early resignation on January 21, 2014 for health reasons; he died on February 12, 2014 of complications from lung cancer.
