Jean-Pierre Kutwa
Jean-Pierre Cardinal Kutwa (born December 22, 1945 in Blockhauss , Ivory Coast ) is the Roman Catholic Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Abidjan .
Life
A few days before Christmas 1970, at the age of twenty-five, he was ordained a deacon for Abidjan by Archbishop Bernard Yago , and on July 11, 1971, he was ordained a priest . 1985 followed by a doctorate in biblical theology at the Pontifical Urban University in Rome . After thirty years as a priest in the Ivorian capital, Kutwa was appointed Archbishop of Gagnoa by Pope John Paul II on May 15, 2001 . The Archbishop of Abidjan, Bernard Cardinal Agré , donated him the episcopal ordination on September 16 of the same year; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Yopougon , Laurent Akran Mandjo , and the Bishop of San Pedro-en-Côte d'Ivoire , Barthélémy Djabla .
On May 2, 2006, the appointment as Archbishop of Abidjan by Pope Benedict XVI took place. On June 18, 2006 he took over the leadership of the Archdiocese of Abidjan, on June 29, 2006 Benedict XVI received him. in St. Peter's Basilica to present the pallium , the official sign of the Metropolitan Archbishops. Kutwa was Vice President of the West African Bishops' Conference .
In the solemn consistory of February 22, 2014, Pope Francis accepted him as a cardinal priest with the titular church of Sant'Emerenziana a Tor Fiorenza in the college of cardinals . His titular church was not taken into possession until three years later, on February 26, 2017.
He is committed to the longstanding civil war and called for the ex-civil war combatants to be consistently disarmed.
