Jean Résal , also Louis-Jean Résal, (born October 22, 1854 in Besançon ; † November 14, 1919 in Paris ) was a French civil engineer, known among other things for various Seine bridges in Paris and other iron bridges in France.

The plaque on the Pont Mirabeau in Paris commemorates the builder Resal

Résal was the son of an inspector general for the mining industry. He was a mechanics professor at the École polytechnique , general inspector of road and bridge construction (Ponts et Chaussées) and taught bridge construction at the École nationale des ponts et chaussées .

His first bridges were built after his studies in Nantes , the Pont du général de la Motte Rouge over the Erdre (1885) and a now destroyed bridge over the Loire in Nantes, rebuilt in a different form as Pont Résal after the Second World War. In Paris he was responsible for the Seine bridges and renovated z. B. the Pont d'Arcole . It is best known for the two iron Seine bridges Pont Alexandre III (1900, built for the World Exhibition ) and Pont Mirabeau (1896), as well as the Passerelle Debilly (1900), the extension of the Pont de Bercy (1864) and the Pont Notre-Dame (1914, partly stone, partly iron). In Lyon he was involved in the design of the Pont de l'Université .

He wrote several books on bridge building (both iron and stone), one book on strength theory and one on soil mechanics.

He was President of the Commission for Reinforced Concrete (Commission du béton armé). A street in the 13th arrondissement of Paris is named after him.
