Jeff Conaway (born October 5, 1950 in New York City , New York - † May 27, 2011 in Encino , Los Angeles , California ) was an American actor .

Life

In 1971, Conaway made his debut in the film Jennifer on My Mind . Many smaller roles in films and television series followed , such as in Kojak - Mission in Manhattan , Murder is Her Hobby or Matlock . He played major roles in the comedy series Taxi (1978-1981) and in the films Grease (1978), The Ghost Writer (1984), The Patriot (1986) and Alien Intruder (1993). His most famous role was probably that of Zack Allan in the science fiction television series Babylon 5 (1994-1998).

For the film Bikini Summer II (1992) he wrote the screenplay , where he led the only time Director .

For his role in the series Taxi Conaway was nominated in 1979 and 1980 for the Golden Globe in the category of best television actor in a supporting role , but could not win the award. In 2007 he and the other cast of the series received the Medallion Award at the TVLand Awards .

Jeff Conaway died on May 27, 2011 from multiple causes including encephalopathy and pneumonia . He was addicted to drugs and alcohol for a long time, which was shown in the 2008 television series Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew was broached.
