Jeff Gauthier

Jeff Gauthier (* 1954 ) is an American violinist who works in classical music as well as in the field of modern creative and new improvisational music . He is also active as a music producer.

Live and act

Gauthier grew up in Los Angeles , where he first took violin lessons from his aunt. The first musical role models were Jimi Hendrix , the British blues rock trio Cream and Miles Davis ' fusion music. After high school, he studied violin and musicology at the California Institute of Arts .

He began his musical career in the environment of Vinny Golia and the musicians of the California avant-garde scene; later worked on Goli’s album Decennium Dans Axlan (1992). He also worked with John Cale and Yusef Lateef , but also in the field of classical music, such as with the Milwaukee Symphony , the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra , the Los Angeles Music Center Opera , the Los Angeles Mozart Orchestra and the Long Beach Symphony . Under his own name, Gauthier recorded the album Internal Memo in 1993 with Von Essen, Alex Cline and keyboardist David Whitham for the Nine Winds label; The Present was created in 1996 , in 2002 he recorded Mask and in 2006 One and the Same on his Cryptogramphone label; In 2008 House of Return appeared on Cryptogramphone .

Gauthier also worked with Devin Sarno , the Norwegian band Ulver ( Blood Inside ) and Steuart Liebig ( KammerStig , 2001).

As a producer, he was involved in founding the avant-garde label Nine Winds and Delos Records in the 1990s . In 1998 he founded the Cryptogramophone sub-label as an imprint. As a producer, he has also worked with Alan Broadbent , Mark Dresser , Peter Erskine , Lou Levy , Jimmy Rowles , Stacy Rowles , Alan Pasqua and Don Preston . He is also responsible for the program of the new music series Inner Ear in Los Angeles.

His own works have also been performed by the Eclipse Quartet .
