Jens Hoffmann (psychologist)

Jens Hoffmann (born October 7, 1968 ) is a German criminal psychologist , case analyst and non-fiction author .

Life

Hoffmann was born in 1968. He studied psychology , linguistics and sociology at the Technical University in Darmstadt and at the University of Surrey in Guildford . During his studies he sat in on the psychological service of the Berlin police . He has been a qualified psychologist since 1996. He wrote his diploma thesis in psychology on the subject of psychological perpetrator profiles of serial killers and serial rapists for police investigative work .

After completing his studies, he wrote a textbook on case analysis and perpetrator profiles together with Cornelia Musolff from 1997 to 2000 on behalf of the Federal Criminal Police Office . Since May 2002 he has been teaching and researching at the forensic psychology department at the Technical University of Darmstadt. There, under his leadership, the Dynamic Risk Analysis System (DyRiAS for short) was developed, which enables scientifically sound risk assessments to be carried out in the areas of severe violence and amok in schools and violence against intimate partners . The official version of DyRiAS-Schule has been in use in Germany, Austria and Switzerland since November 2009.

Hoffmann is also the head of the Darmstadt Institute for Psychology and Threat Management (IPBm). The institute trains prevention and crisis managers and installs threat management in authorities, companies and universities.

His work focuses on criminal and investigative psychology . He has dealt intensively with the topics of stalking , criminal profiles , insider crime and rampages in schools . Hoffmann produced numerous publications and lectures at universities and police schools on the subject of case analysis and perpetrator profiles and is a frequent guest on talk shows and news programs on the subject of amok and stalking.

In 2002, Hoffmann was included in Europol's expert database as a consultant for European police forces. In 2004 he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD . He wrote his dissertation on the subject of stalking. Obsessive harassment and persecution with special attention to celebrity victims.
