Jens Kahl

Jens Kahl (born November 11, 1961 in Spremberg ) is a German sports scientist and has been sports director of the German Canoe Association since 2001 .

Life

After studying sports science, Jens Kahl worked from 1984 as a research assistant in the water sports science department of the German University of Physical Culture (DHfK) in Leipzig. In 1990 he successfully completed his doctorate in educational science (Dr. paed.) There . From 1990 to 1993 he was the head coach of the Belgian Canoeing Association and in this capacity took part in the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona . He then accompanied the German national canoe team from 1993 as a research assistant at the Institute for Applied Training Science (IAT) in Leipzig. In this capacity he also took part in the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta . In 2001 he switched to the position of sports director at the German Canoe Association . At the Olympic Games in 2000 in Sydney , the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , in 2008 in Beijing and 2012 in London , he attended the German Olympic teams as part of Team Leaders Team canoe. At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , he was Chief Official (main referee) of the canoe racing competitions and was instrumental in drawing up the schedule for these competitions at the 2016 Olympic Games .

Since the retirement of the former head national coach Reiner Kießler in 2016, Jens Kahl has also held the position of chief national coach. In addition, he has been a member of the racing commission of the International Canoe Federation (ICF) since 2001 .

During his tenure as sports director, athletes of the German Canoe Association won 33 Olympic medals (15 gold, 9 silver, 9 bronze). During his work as head coach of the German national team, Germany emerged as the most successful nation at the 44th Canoe Racing World Championships (2018) with a total of 13 medals (7 gold, 4 silver, 2 bronze).
