Jesper Ljung (born December 31, 1973 ) is a Swedish former football player and current coach. The midfielder has made his career in Sweden, Denmark and Norway.
Career
Ljung started playing football at Ryssby IF . He made his first steps in the adult field in 1989 at the then fourth division Ljungby IF , in the following seasons he ran for the second division Kalmar AIK . In 1991 he missed relegation with the team in the spring championship, then he moved on to league rivals Helsingborgs IF . With this he rose at the end of the season to the Allsvenskan , where he established himself as a regular at the side of Henrik Larsson , Ola Nilsson , Magnus Arvidsson and Urban Stoltz . The club settled in the front division, until 1998 he was twice runner-up and won the cup once.
In the 1997 and 1998 seasons , Ljung was only used sporadically. He then left Sweden in early 1999 and joined the Danish club Vejle BK in the Superliga . Here he played for a year and a half alongside players like Kent Scholz , Calle Facius , Kaspar Dalgas and Alex Nørlund before returning to his home country in the summer of 2000. There he went to Landskrona BoIS in the Superettan , as a regular player he contributed in the 2001 second division season to promotion to the Allsvenskan. Due to an injury, however, he was hardly used there and thus lost his regular place. He then moved to the Norwegian club Raufoss IL in the summer , where he signed a two and a half year contract.
In December 2003, however, Ljung returned to Sweden again, this time he was hired by the second division club BK Häcken . With the Gothenburg club he rose to the Allsvenskan. There he ran two seasons on the side of Teddy Lučić , Dioh Williams , Christoffer Källqvist and Jonas Henriksson , after relegation he ended his active career at the end of the second division season in 2007 .
His first coaching position was Ljung at the fifth division Holmalunds IF , which he led in 2009 as a season winner in the fourth division. However, he left the club and returned as a youth coach to BK Häcken, where he made the UEFA A license . At the end of the year he moved on again and took over the coaching position at the second division relegated FC Trollhättan .
