James Arthur "Jim" Jackson (born October 14, 1970 in Toledo , Ohio ) is a retired American basketball player who played in the NBA from 1992 to 2006 . He finally became known through his numerous team changes - in total he was active for twelve different NBA teams in his career.

Careers in the NBA

Jackson moved to the professional camp after three years at Ohio State University . In the 1992 NBA Draft , he was selected fourth by the Dallas Mavericks . Due to delays in contract negotiations, Jackson signed late and only played 28 of 82 games in his rookie season. The following year he started in all 82 games and scored 19.2 points, 4.7 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game. In the following year he increased his points yield to 25.7 points per game. At the side of the young stars Jamal Mashburn and Jason Kidd , a great future was prophesied for the Mavericks. However, there were soon disagreements between the young stars among themselves, during which the trio was swapped away.

In 1997, Jackson was finally transferred to the New Jersey Nets . In the 1997 NBA draft , Jackson moved to the Philadelphia 76ers for Keith Van Horn, among others . In the 76ers, however, Jackson was unhappy about the lack of gaming and was transferred to the Golden State Warriors . Despite 18.9 points for the Warriors, Jackson was dissatisfied with the sporting situation in Oakland and signed with the Portland Trail Blazers . Due to many injuries, Jackson could no longer build on his performance and only scored 8.4 points per game. Jackson was transferred again. This time with Isaiah Rider for Steve Smith to the Atlanta Hawks . He stayed here until 2001 before he was returned to his native Ohio to the Cleveland Cavaliers . After the season Jackson received no offer, so that he was the first time without a team at the start of the season. The Miami Heat signed Jackson due to an injury problem. Jackson played solidly at the Heat with 10 points per game, but received no offer. Again he was without a team before the Sacramento Kings signed him. In 2003 he joined the Houston Rockets , where he still demonstrated his NBA suitability with 12.9 points and 6.1 rebounds. Still, he was sent away to the New Orleans Hornets in 2005 , only to be passed on to the Phoenix Suns shortly afterwards . His last station was the Los Angeles Lakers , where Jackson was only used as a supplementary player.

During his 14-year career, Jackson scored 14.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game.
