Jimmy Haslip

Jimmy Haslip (born December 31, 1951 in Bronx , New York City ) is an American jazz bassist.

Career

Haslip learned trumpet and other wind instruments as a child and switched to bass at the age of fifteen . In the mid-1970s he had the opportunity to work with Jaco Pastorius for some time . In 1977 he founded the fusion group Yellowjackets with Robben Ford , Russell Ferrante and Ricky Lawson .

As a left-handed player, Haslip plays a left-handed bass whose strings he has not strung from top to bottom with the low strings first, as is usual, but with the high strings first. In addition to the Yellowjackets, he worked in a band with Allan Holdsworth , Alan Pasqua and Chad Wackerman and as a sideman with numerous musicians such as Bruce Hornsby , Rita Coolidge , Gino Vannelli , Tommy Bolin , Allan Holdsworth, Marilyn Scott , Chaka Khan , Al Jarreau , Jing Chi , Donald Fagen , Anita Baker , David Sanborn , Rod Stewart , Michael Sembello , Joe Cocker , Vince Mendoza , Eric Marienthal , Jeff Lorber , Chris Beckers , John Scofield and Gary Wright and recorded their own albums.
