research

Connelly's work focuses on art, mythology and religion in ancient Greece . As a cultural historian , she has dealt with a wide range of topics, ranging from the role of women and ritual places to landscape structures and individual life courses. With her book Portrait of a Priestess. Women and Ritual in Ancient Greece Connelly tried to give a new representation of the position of women in social and religious life. This book was named one of the Top 100 Books of 2007 by the New York Times Book Review and won the Archaeological Institute of America's James R. Wiseman Book Award in 2009 . One of her most recent research results is a fundamentally new interpretation of the frieze on the Parthenon , which she presented to a wider public in detail in the book The Parthenon Enigma , published in 2014 .

Connelly conducted practical research in Corinth , Athens , Nemea , Paphos , Kourion , Marion and on the island of Failaka . Since 1990 her research focus has been on the island of Yeronisos off the west coast of Cyprus , where she not only directs the excavations , but also deals with the effects of the archaeological work on the natural environment. Her work often deals with the cultural development of Hellenism in the Middle East.

In 2003, together with the architect Demetri Porphyrios , she submitted a proposal for the redesign of the World Trade Center site , which was heavily influenced by classical Greek architecture.
