Joaquín Gómez (born October 14, 1996 in Avellaneda ) is an Argentine hammer thrower .

Athletic career

Joaquín Gómez gained his first international experience in 2012 at the Youth South American Championships in Mendoza , where he won the gold medal with a new championship record of 81.15 m with the 5 kg hammer. In the following year he was eliminated from the youth world championships in Donetsk without a valid attempt in qualification and then reached 14th place at the Pan American Junior Championships in Medellín with 50.42 m with the 6 kg hammer, before he went to the Junior South American Championships in Resistencia won the gold medal with a throw at 70.90 m. In 2014 he finished eighth at the Junior World Championships in Eugene with 73.67 m and then won the U23 South American Championships in Montevideo with 67.98 m. In 2015 he successfully defended his title at the Junior South American Championships in Cuenca with a new championship record of 80.59 m and won the bronze medal at the Pan American Junior Championships in Edmonton with a width of 73.65 m.

In 2015 Gómez finished fifth at the Ibero-American Championships in Rio de Janeiro with 67.34 m and won the silver medal at the U23 South American Championships in Lima with 71.56 m. The following year he was fourth at the South American Championships in Luque with 70.96 m and then took part for the first time in the Summer Universiade in Taipei , where he came in ninth place with 69.49 m in the final. In 2018 he won the South American Games in Cochabamba with a width of 75.10 m, with which he set a new player record as well as surpassing the South American U23 record. He then won the silver medal behind Spaniard Javier Cienfuegos at the Ibero-American Championships in Trujillo with 74.64 m and also won the silver medal at the U23 South American Championships in Cuenca with a new best of 75.96 m, this time behind the Chilean Humberto Mansilla . At the 2019 South American Athletics Championships in Lima, he came fourth again with 71.47 m and then finished fifth at the Pan American Games there with 73.92 m. At the beginning of October he took part in the World Championships in Doha , but did not reach the final with 70.17 m .

In 2016, 2018 and 2019 Gómez became the Argentine hammer throw champion.
