Joaquim Ferreira Lopes

Joaquim Ferreira Lopes OFMCap (born October 13, 1949 in Santo Tirso ) is a Portuguese religious and emeritus Roman Catholic Bishop of Viana in Angola .

Life

Joaquim Ferreira Lopes joined the religious order of the Capuchin in and received on 25 May 1975, the priestly ordination .

Pope John Paul II appointed him on November 9, 2001 as the first bishop of the diocese of Dundo, established on the same date . He was ordained episcopate on February 3rd of the following year by the Bishop of Uije , José Francisco Moreira dos Santos, OFMCap; Co- consecrators were Giovanni Angelo Becciu , Apostolic Nuncio in Angola and São Tomé and Príncipe , and Damião António Franklin , Archbishop of Luanda .

On June 6, 2007 he was welcomed by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed bishop first bishop of the diocese of Viana , established on the same date , and introduced into office on July 29 of the same year.

Pope Francis accepted his early resignation on February 11, 2019.
