Johan Andreas Murray , also Johan Anders , (born January 27, 1740 in Stockholm , † May 22, 1791 in Göttingen ) was a Swedish botanist and doctor . Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Murray ".

Live and act

His father of Prussian origin was Andreas Murray (1695–1771), a priest. Murray was a student of Linnaeus in Uppsala from 1756 to 1759 . In 1760 he went to Göttingen . He stayed in contact with Linnaeus through correspondence until 1776. Murray was a professor of medicine and botany; from 1769 he was also custodian of the Göttingen Botanical Garden . From 1770 he was an extraordinary member, from 1776 a full member of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences .

Murray has published works in the fields of medicine, pharmacy, and botany. He was editor of "Caroli a Linné ... Systema vegetabilum ..." in the 13th edition in 1774 and in the 14th edition in 1784.

In 1772 Murray married Eleonora Margaretha Conradi (1749-1827).

Honors

After Murray the plant genus was murraya ( Murraya J.G. Koenig ex L. corr. Murr ) from the family of Rutaceae named (Rutaceae).
