Career
Johan Mattsson began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of the Huddinge IK . From there the goalkeeper moved to the youth department of Södertälje SK , for whose professional team he made his debut in the 2008/09 season when he was used in a game of the Kvalserien , the relegation between Elitserien and HockeyAllsvenskan . In the following years, however, he only ran for the juniors of Södertälje SK. In the 2011 NHL Entry Draft he was selected in the seventh round as a total of 211th player by the Chicago Blackhawks . First, however, he was in the 2011/12 season for the Sudbury Wolves in the Canadian top junior league Ontario Hockey League between the posts. For the 2012/13 season he moved to the Tri-City Storm from the junior league United States Hockey League .
In the summer of 2013 Mattsson returned to Sweden and joined Djurgårdens IF from HockeyAllsvenskan . There he completed a total of 16 games as a substitute goalkeeper and achieved promotion to the Svenska Hockeyligan with the team at the end of the 2013/14 season . The following year he was on loan from second division IF Björklöven on the ice, but even there did not get beyond the role of backup goalkeeper. In April 2015, the Swede moved to Timrå IK and was the regular goalkeeper there until the end of the 2016/17 season. He then moved back to the Svenska Hockeyligan for Frölunda HC .
International
For Sweden Mattsson took part in the U20 World Junior Championship in 2012 , where he won the gold medal with his team. As the third goalkeeper, he was not used during the tournament.
