Johan Psilanderhielm

Johan Psilanderhielm (born February 11, 1728 in Stockholm , † July 17, 1799 in Stralsund ) was a Swedish lieutenant general .

Life

Origin and family

Johan was a member of the 1720 ennobled Swedish noble family Psilanderhielm . His parents were the Swedish rent master and councilor Peter Psilanderhielm (1696-1770) and Petronella Sofia, née Fries (1708-1748). the Swedish Rear Admiral Gustaf Psilanderhielm (1735-1811) was his brother. Another brother, Peter (1734–1758), remained as a brigade major in Prussian services off Olomouc . Johan was married but died without leaving any children.

Career

Psilanderhielm began his career in the Swedish army in 1742 as a fortification volunteer . In 1744 he was vice- corporal in the body regiment on horseback ( Swedish Livregementet till häst ). From here he changed in November 1745 as a lieutenant in Hessian services and in December of the same year to the regiment " de Fersen " ( French Régiment de Fersen 130e RI ) continued in French services with the same rank . In the regiment he was body satellite in 1746 and advanced to prime lieutenant . Psilanderhielm remained in the French service until 1748.

Back in Swedish service in 1749 he became captain of the "Spens" regiment in Swedish Pomerania . As a major , in 1758 he moved to the "Blue Hussars" ( Swedish Blå husarregementet ) in Greifswald , where he rose to lieutenant colonel in 1765 after becoming a Knight of the Order of the Sword in 1760 . He took an active part in the fighting during the Seven Years' War in Pomerania. In 1766 he moved equally to the Leib-Dragoons Regiment ( Swedish Livdragonregementet ) and in 1767 back to the Blue Hussar Regiment. He was promoted to colonel in 1772 and to major general in 1776. As chief , he took over the “Blixen” regiment in Stralsund in 1779 , which until his departure in 1796 as the “Psilanderhielm” regiment ( Swedish Psilanderhielmska regementet ) carried his name.

Shortly after the start of the war in Finland in 1788, he was promoted to lieutenant general and supreme commander of Gothenburg as well as commander of the defense of the Swedish west coast.
