Johann Adolph von Lützow

Johann Adolph Freiherr von Lützow (born May 19, 1748 in Naumburg ; † November 6, 1819 in Stargard ) was a Prussian major general , knight of the order Pour le Mérite and provost of Kolberg, as well as commander of Berlin .

Life

origin

He comes from a very old Lützow family in Mecklenburg . He belongs to the Pritzier-Schwechow line and was brought up in Schulpforte . His father was Marquard Georg von Lützow († 1752) Obermundschenk von Sachsen-Weißenfels . His mother was Anna Dorothea von Taubenheim. He was the fourth and youngest son of the couple.

Military career

In 1762 Lützow first joined the "Bernburg" regiment, then the "von Rammin" regiment, finally "von Möllendorf". He was an adjutant of inspections and governors for seven years. During the War of the Bavarian Succession he was Brigade Major and Adjutant General of General von Rammin. In the regiment "von Möllendorf" he was promoted to major on July 13, 1790 , then to commander of a grenadier battalion and on July 24, 1798 to lieutenant colonel. A year later he became commander of the regiment and on June 7, 1800 colonel . On March 18, 1806, the king appointed him commandant of Berlin, but in the campaign of that year 1806 he led a brigade in the main army. After the peace of Tilsit he was one of the plenipotentiaries in the execution of the peace and received many honorable assignments from his monarch. On November 28, 1808 the baron was appointed major general. But he was getting sick and so he was retired in 1813. He died in Stargard on November 6, 1819 on a trip to Pomerania. Already in 1806 he had become provost of the chapter in Kolberg.

Lützow was married to Frederike Wilhelmine Luise Sophie von Zastrow (born November 28, 1754, † July 17, 1815). She was the daughter of the Prussian major Friedrich Wilhelm Christian von Zastrow († 1758) and Christiane Auguste von Boden († February 17, 1776). Two of her brothers also became Prussian generals.
