Johann August von Harroy de Techreaux (born April 10, 1753 in Maastricht , † February 15, 1820 in Breslau ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Johann August was a son of the major in the engineering corps and inspector of the Silesian fortresses Jean Gerard Harroy de Techreaux (1727–1789) and his wife Elisabeth, née de Ramthoun (1732–1760).

Military career

Harroy attended the Dutch Military School in Namur in 1766 and was transferred to the Mineur Corps in 1767. Then he changed to Prussian services and came on May 15, 1768 as a volunteer in the engineering corps in the fortress Neisse . There he became a conductor on August 1, 1770 and second lieutenant on March 31, 1773 . He took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession and on June 16, 1787 became the captain and engineer of Platz in Cosel. During the First Coalition War , he fought in the sieges of Mainz and Landau in the Palatinate . On November 11, 1793 he received the medalPour le Mérite .

On November 12th, 1799 he became major and on November 1st, 1804 2nd brigadier of the fortresses Silberberg , Glatz , Neisse and Cosel , based in Cosel. In the fourth coalition war he fought in the defense of Neisse. The fortress surrendered and it was initially made inactive from June 16, 1807. But on November 30, 1808, he became Brigadier of the Silesian fortresses. He was promoted to lieutenant colonel on May 10, 1809 and to colonel on February 5, 1811. On March 9, 1813, he was appointed commander of the engineering corps , initially ad interim , and from August 20, 1813, he was the actual commander.

After the war he was appointed major general on May 31, 1815 with a patent from June 1, 1815. On April 19, 1816, he was awarded the Iron Cross II. Class on a white ribbon and on April 20, 1816 was appointed Chief Brigadier of the 2nd Engineer Brigade. On April 30, 1818 he was appointed lieutenant general with a pension of 1500 thalers and the Order of the Red Eagle III. Class retired. He died on February 15, 1820 in Breslau and was buried there on February 19, 1820.

family

Harroy married on January 4, 1791 in Cosel Karoline Beate von Darries (1773-1831), a daughter of the engineer colonel Paul Friedrich von Darries. The couple had several children:
