Johann Baptist Umberg SJ; Baptismal name : Johann Georg Anton Umberg (born April 22, 1875 in Flums , † May 25, 1959 in Innsbruck ), was a Swiss Jesuit and university professor.

Life

Johann Baptist Umberg was the son of the teacher Johann Franz Umberg and his wife Elisabetha, geb. Zoller.

He attended the collegiate school in Einsiedeln Abbey and the cantonal school Kollegium Schwyz . From 1893 to 1895 he had his novitiate of the Jesuits in the Netherlands and was then from 1895 to 1907 a student of rhetoric , philosophy and theology .

From 1908 to 1925 he was professor for morality and dogmatics at the theological faculty in Valkenburg aan de Geul , which moved to Frankfurt am Main as the Philosophical-Theological University of Sankt Georgen after World War II ; During this time he also taught in Maastricht from 1922 to 1923 .
