Johann Bernhard von Manstein (born April 4, 1740 in Kaukern , † March 8, 1816 in Bartenstein ) was a Prussian major general , chief of Dragoon Regiment No. 10 and hereditary lord of Hermenhagen .

Life

origin

He came from the old noble family von Manstein . His parents were Konrad von Manstein (* 1712; † December 21, 1767 in Kaukern) and his wife Marie Dorothea, née Cibrovius. His mother was the daughter of the pastor of Pelleningken . Major General Wilhelm Dietrich von Manstein was his brother.

Military career

From November 12, 1750, Manstein visited the cadet house in Berlin . On January 12, 1756 he came to the Queen's widow as a page . In the same year he became a standard junker in Cuirassier Regiment No. 4 . During the Seven Years' War Manstein fought in the battles of Prague , Breslau , Leuthen , Hochkirch , Torgau , Freiberg as well as in the siege of Prague and in the battle near Chemnitz. In the battle near Domstadtl he was wounded in the right arm and head. During that time he became a cornet on February 10, 1758 and a lieutenant on March 9, 1760.

After the war he was in Frankfurt on advertising . On October 3, 1772 he was staff officer and on February 25, 1778 Rittmeister and company commander . As such, Manstein took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession . On July 20, 1783 he was then major , on August 11, 1790 lieutenant colonel and on January 25, 1793 colonel . He fought with the regiment in the campaign in Poland in 1794/95 . On March 27, 1797 he received the post of regimental commander. On April 26, 1801 he received the "von Busch" dragoon regiment as chief, shortly afterwards on May 20, 1801 he was appointed major general. During the parade on June 2, 1804, he received the order Pour le Mérite . On April 8, 1806, he received his resignation and an annual pension of 1000 thalers. He died in Bartenstein on March 8, 1816.

Manstein married Friederice Karoline Baur von Eysseneck on September 29, 1772 in Frankfurt am Main (* December 20, 1750; † September 12, 1800). The couple had the following children:

After divorcing his first wife, Manstein married Countess Henriette von Seherr-Thoß (born September 12, 1765) at Weigelsdorf Castle on April 4, 1793 . This marriage was divorced on April 22, 1796.
