Johann Christian Wilhelm Dittmar (born April 25, 1801 in Pappenheim , † January 31, 1877 in Bayreuth ) was a German Evangelical Lutheran theologian , pastor and politician .

Life

Born in the small town of Pappenheim in Central Franconia , Dittmar studied philosophy in Würzburg and theology in Erlangen after attending a high school in Munich . During his studies he became a member of the Old Würzburg Burschenschaft in 1820 and of the Old Erlanger Burschenschaft in 1822 . In 1821 he became a member of the Youth League . Because of its leading role in the fraternity he arrived in Munich in custody and received 1824 in Erlangen the Consilium abeundi (expulsion from the college). In 1825 Ansbach added that he was due to be ordained and worked since 1827 as a pastor in Burgsinn and from 1830 in Höllrich-Heßdorf . In 1843 he was promoted to Dr. theol. PhD . From 1848 he was pastor at the town church of Bayreuth , first in the third, from 1852 in the second and from 1854 in the first pastor's office . In the same year he was also dean of the Bayreuth deanery and councilor in the Bayreuth consistory . He served as pastor until 1866 and as dean until his death.

Dittmar became a member of the last meeting of the estates in Munich in 1848 and then a member of the Bavarian state parliament . His Pax vobiscum! advocated a reconciliation of denominations under the auspices of the national church, but remained without a positive response in the evangelical church.

After his move to Bayreuth in 1872, Dittmar came into closer contact with the composer Richard Wagner , with whom he had already exchanged letters. Through his work , his wife Cosima Wagner converted from Catholic to Protestant faith in 1872. They met in a regular circle, including Friedrich Nietzsche .
