Johann Ephraim Christian Ernst von Irwing (born December 29, 1737 in Tilsit , † April 9, 1806 in Schweidnitz ) was a Prussian major general and most recently in command of Schweidnitz.

Life

origin

He comes from the old Irwing merchant family. She comes from Scotland and came to Prussia with the Teutonic Order . His father was Ephraim von Irwing (* 1735, † February 15, 1786), preacher in the Reformed Church of Tilsit. Major General Friedrich Daniel Wilhelm von Irwing was his brother.

Military career

Irwing visited the Cadet House in Berlin from June 14, 1744 . From there he came on January 1, 1757 as a private corporal in Infantry Regiment No. 23 of the Prussian Army . On June 4, 1757 he was promoted to ensign . During the Seven Years' War was Irving on September 6, 1758 to second lieutenant and on February 27, 1761 First Lieutenant promoted.

After the war, he became staff captain on January 26, 1770 and captain and company commander on September 17, 1772 . As such, Irwing took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession . On December 3, 1778 he received the order Pour le Mérite . On January 2, 1783, he became major and on April 5, 1784 battalion commander. On September 22, 1790 he became lieutenant colonel and on January 11, 1793 colonel . He was appointed regimental commander on January 18, 1705. On September 12, 1795, he was transferred to Schweidnitz as a commander with a salary of 860 thalers plus an allowance of 800 thalers. On June 14, 1796, he was named major general with a patent dated June 29, 1798. He died on April 9, 1806 in Schweidnitz.

Irwing married Maria Juliane Charlotte von Benecke on July 22, 1773 in Berlin (* June 24, 1748 - † May 11, 1804). She was the daughter of Colonel Adam Friedrich von Benecke († November 9, 1760, from the injuries from the battle of Torgau ). The following children are known:

  • Friederike Luise Karoline Albertine (born October 16, 1774)
