Johann Ernst Dietrich von Osen

Johann Ernst Dietrich von Osen (born February 4, 1723 in Berlin ; † January 10, 1801 in Wesel ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

He comes from a middle-class family. His parents were Jakob Osen and his wife Marie Elisabeth, née Fielitz. His father was a simple gendarme in the squadron of Rittmeister von Schenk in the Gensdarmes regiment .

Military career

Osen became a grenadier in the "Alt-Anhalt" infantry regiment on January 1, 1744 . There he became a sergeant on December 4, 1744. In the Second Silesian War , Osen fought in the Battle of Kesselsdorf . In 1746 he was transferred to the "von Wutgenau" infantry regiment . During the Seven Years' War he fought in the battles of Zorndorf , Kay , Kunersdorf and Torgau . During that time he was transferred to Grenadier Battalion No. 2 on December 27, 1757 as a Second Lieutenant .

Even after the war on June 24, 1763, he stayed with the Grenadier Battalion, where on July 11, 1764 he became Premier Lieutenant . On January 13, 1770 , King Friedrich II elevated him to the nobility “because of his many loyal services” . On June 11, 1771, he was promoted to staff captain and on February 8, 1776 , he was transferred to the No. 3 grenadier battalion as captain and company commander . With this he took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession in 1778/79 . On November 24, 1785, Osen became a major in the infantry regiment "von Gaudi" . He was born on June 17, 1792 Lieutenant Colonel and on January 31, 1794 , Colonel . On April 25, 1794 he received his resignation with a pension and on May 12, 1794 the character of major general.

Osen asked several times to use it again, but this was rejected. On February 10, 1798, however, he was given permission to wear his old uniform. He died on January 10, 1801 in Wesel. After his death he was buried on the Wilhelm Bastion in Wesel .

family

Osen married Dorothea Matia Miethe on January 5, 1745 in Berlin. He had several children including:

  • Ludwig Gottlieb (* 1753; † 19 May 1794), fell as a captain in the infantry regiment "von Klinckowström" during the First Coalition War
  • Johann Georg (* 1754; † June 26, 1799), fell as staff captain in IR. 45
  • Dorothea Elisabeth (born September 12, 1751) ⚭ 1771 Karl August von Mahlen, Premier Lieutenant

After the death of his first wife, he married Anna Rosine Franke. She brought the stepdaughter Ernestine von Treskow (* February 12, 1767) into the marriage, who married Anton von Meusel, captain and major in Silberberg, in 1794.
