Johann Friedrich Vitzthum von Eckstädt

Count Johann Friedrich Vitzthum von Eckstädt (* June 24, 1712 ; † October 16, 1786 in Leipzig ) was a royal Polish and electoral Saxon lieutenant general of the cavalry and colonel of the Garde du Corps as well as heir , feudal lord and court lord on Wölkau , Tiefensee , Reibitz, Sausedlitz , Neuhaus and Petersroda. In the last years of his life he was governor of Leipzig.

Life

He came from the old Thuringian noble family of Vitzthume and was the eldest son of Friedrich Vitzthum von Eckstädt , who had been raised to the rank of count in 1711 . Rahel Charlotte, née Countess von Hoym , was his mother, who after his father's death in 1726 initially took over his father’s possessions, including the Pristäblich acquired in 1712 as well as those already mentioned above . She also had Otterwisch Castle built.

After two years of studying at the University of Leipzig, Johann Friedrich joined the Garde du Corps as Rittmeister at the age of 17 and rose to become Lieutenant General. This last promotion took place in 1752. In 1756 he was one of those officers from the Electorate of Saxony who had to sign the surrender to the Kingdom of Prussia in the camp of Pirna .

He was in correspondence with Christian Fürchtegott Gellert .

He was married to Erdmuthe, widowed von Schönfeld, born von Fullen from the Störmthal family. However, this marriage remained childless.
