Johann Friedrich Wilhelm Moritz Freiherr von Romberg (* 1724 at Brünninghausen Castle ; † 1792 in Wesel ) was a Prussian lieutenant general , chief of the infantry regiment of the same name and commander of the Wesel Citadel .

Life

origin

His family is from County Mark . He was the son of Konrad Stephan Freiherr von Romberg (1691–1755), heir to Brünninghausen, Bladendorf, Landdrost von Lünen and Hörde and director of the knighthood of the county of Mark. His mother was Mechtel Matia Christine von Botlenberg called Kessel (1700–1771). The later major general Friedrich Gisbert Wilhelm von Romberg (1729–1809) was his brother, Gisbert von Romberg was the son of his brother Kaspar Adolf (1721–1795).

Military career

Romberg came to the Prussian Army and on April 18, 1742 was ensign in the infantry regiment "von Anhalt-Zerbst" . A year later he became second lieutenant and in mid-October 1753 prime lieutenant . In 1756 he became General von Jungken's adjutant general . On May 4, 1759 he was appointed company commander and on April 20, 1763 he was promoted to major . In May 1773 he became lieutenant colonel and on September 1, 1780 colonel and commander of the "Budberg" infantry regiment . With his promotion to major general on May 22, 1785, the king appointed him chief of the "Schottenstein" infantry regiment in Königsberg .

In January 1789 Romberg said goodbye because of facial paralysis and was given the position of commandant of Wesel. In 1788/89 he organized the establishment of volunteer recruits for recruits from the advertising-free districts of the duchies of Kleve and Moers and the Prussian part of Geldern . In September 1790 he was appointed lieutenant general.

family

Romberg was married to Friderike Christiane Volpertine Luise von Jungken (1742-1807) since October 16, 1757. She was the daughter of Martin Eberhard von Jungkenn and Eleonore Magdalena Juliane von Vohenstein zu Adelsmannsfelden.

He had several children with his wife, including:

  • Wilhelm Bernhard Friedrich (1775–1831) ⚭ Susanna Catharina Eickel (1776–1834)
