Johann-Georg Karl Ludwig Emil von Dewitz (born August 8, 1878 in Meesow , Regenwalde district , Pomerania province , † February 8, 1958 in Kuglmoos ) was a Prussian officer and politician ( DNVP ).

origin

His parents were Oskar Stephan August von Dewitz (* August 25, 1845; † January 25, 1932) and his wife Elisabeth von Loeper (* November 1, 1852; † November 11, 1940).

Life

After visiting the König-Wilhelm Gymnasium in Stettin Dewitz began a military career and entered as a cadet in the Grenadier Regiment "King Friedrich Wilhelm IV." (1 Pommersches) No. 2 a. In 1900 he was promoted to lieutenant , was a battalion adjutant from 1906 and was appointed first lieutenant in 1909 . From 1909 to 1912 he attended the Prussian War Academy in Berlin . In 1914 he was promoted to captain .

As such, Dewitz took part in the First World War. On September 7, 1914, he was wounded in the 1st Army in the Battle of the Marne . He returned to the field in November 1914, was appointed battalion commander in March 1915, and served from March 1917 to November 1918 with General Manager of the Great Headquarters . After the November Revolution he resigned as a major from the military service.

politics

In February 1919 he founded the Pomeranian Landbund (→ Reichslandbund ) in Stettin . Dewitz was Reich Commissioner for Eastern Aid (Landstelle Köslin) and triggered the Eastern Aid scandal .

In the Reichstag election in May 1924 , Dewitz was elected to the German Reichstag for the German National People's Party (DNVP) , of which he was a member until May 1928.
