Gottfried Pulian
Johann Gottfried Pulian (born July 27, 1809 in Meißen ; † March 4, 1875 in Düsseldorf ) was a German landscape and architecture painter .
life and work
Pulian was the son of a rope maker from Meissen. He initially received lessons from Heinrich Gotthelf Schaufuss and from 1826 attended the State Drawing School in Meißen, where he was also a student of Adrian Ludwig Richter from 1828 to 1829 . He then studied with Carl August Richter at the Dresden Art Academy until 1832 . From 1838 to 1842 he continued his studies at the Düsseldorf Art Academy with Johann Wilhelm Schirmer .
Pulian worked in Düsseldorf until his death in 1875. He was a founding member of the Düsseldorfer Künstlerverein Malkasten , with which he exhibited jointly between 1848 and 1875.
He painted views of the landscapes on the Middle and Lower Rhine , the Belgian Netherlands , Upper Bavaria and the Salzburg region . As was customary for representatives of the Düsseldorf school , Pulian painted in plein-air , mostly oil sketches, on the basis of which he later supplemented the individual work in his studio.
