Johann Gottlieb Koppe (born January 21, 1782 in Beesdau ; † January 1, 1863 there ) was a German agronomist and an important reformer in agriculture.

Life

He was born in Niederlausitz and attended the Lübben city ​​school from 1793 to 1797 . After working on various estates, he was hired in 1800 as the estate manager of the then Major August von Thümen . Albrecht Daniel Thaer , the founder of modern agricultural science, became aware of Koppe through articles that he was able to publish in agricultural newspapers . Thaer offered him a position as a teacher in the agricultural science school in Möglin , which Koppe started in 1811. In 1813 his textbook Lessons in Agriculture and Cattle Breeding appeared , which made him known.

In 1814 he was steward of the rule Reichenow of Baron Eckard Stein , for which he and 1830 including the Good Grunow headed and the production of the three-field system on impact and crop rotation Ground surrounded by English model. He married Anna Elisabeth Brabant (* 1789) in Werbig in 1807 (divorced in 1812 ). The couple had two children. In 1813 he married the pastor's daughter Marianne Wilisch (1792–1849) in Cotta near Pirna , with her he had four sons and five daughters.
