Johann Karl Friedrich Christoph von Burghoff (born October 22, 1769 in Beelitz (Zauch-Belzig district), † November 10, 1840 in Breslau ) was a Prussian major general and most recently the commander of the 19th Landwehr Regiment.

His parents were Johann Friedrich Heinrich von Burghoff (* 1720, † February 22, 1774) and his wife Friederike Sophie von Carlowitz (* October 7, 1742), a daughter of Colonel Georg Karl von Carlowitz .

Career

He came to Berlin as a page in 1780 . On August 6, 1787 he came as a private corporal in the Füselier battalion No. 9, where he was appointed second lieutenant on December 30, 1787 . During the campaign in Poland in 1794/95 he was transferred to the battalion's depot. On October 6, 1797 he was Premier-Lieutenant and on January 10, 1805 Captain of the Staff . During the Fourth Coalition War he fought in the Battle of Jena . The battalion was wiped out on October 15th near Halle. He managed to retreat to Graudenz, where he took part in the defense of the fortress.

After the Peace of Tilsit he became a captain and company commander on September 14, 1807 . On February 17, 1809 he was transferred to the 1st Silesian Infantry Regiment (No. 10). On April 26, 1813 he became major there with a patent on June 3, 1813. During the Wars of Liberation he was wounded in the battle of Großgörschen , but fought again in the battles of Bautzen , on the Katzbach , Leipzig , Vauchamps , Montmirail , Laon , the transition at Wartenburg and the battles at Freyburg (Unstrut), Eisenach, Vitry and Chalon. He acquired the Iron Cross 2nd class at Katzbach , the Iron Cross 1st class at Leipzig and the Russian Order of St. Vladimir 4th class at Chalon .

On August 16, 1814, he became the commander of the Silesian Grenadier Battalion and on October 14, 1814, he was appointed as the battalion commander of the Emperor Franz Grenadier Regiment . As early as April 10, 1815, he joined the 9th Replacement Battalion as a commander, and on August 2, 1815, he became the commander of the 1st Poznan Landwehr Regiment. There he became lieutenant colonel on August 3, 1816 and on November 24, 1816 commander of the 2nd Poznan Landwehr Regiment. On March 18, 1820 he became commander of the 19th Landwehr Regiment and on March 30, 1821 he was promoted to colonel with patent on April 1, 1821.
