Georg Karl von Carlowitz (Colonel)

Georg Karl von Carlowitz (born October 4, 1717 in Schwarzbach, Saxony , † July 24, 1771 in Treuenbrietzen ) was a royal Prussian colonel , chief of Grenadier Battalion No. 1 and knight of the Pour le Mérite .

origin

His parents were the heir to Schwarzbach and Burkersdorf Hans Karl von Carlowitz († May 17, 1742) and his wife Susanne Sabina von Seydewitz . His brother was Moritz Karl von Carlowitz.

Life

Georg Karl came to the court of the ruling Count Heinrich XVIII in 1731 as a page . (Reuss-Gera) . In 1734 he came as an ensign in the Müßing regiment, which was set up with the Principality of Schwarzenburg as part of the imperial contingent against the French. From 1734 to 1735 he was involved in the campaign on the Rhine. In 1736 the regiment was disbanded, only one company remained. This was made available through the mediation of the city of Rostock during the unrest in Mecklenburg . Here he was initially there as an ensign and rose to lieutenant in 1738 .

For the First Silesian War , the company switched to Prussian services in 1741 and was incorporated into Garrison Regiment No. 7. In 1742 two grenadier companies were pulled out and put on field budget. The Borcke Grenadier Battalion was formed there together with grenadiers from Beelitz and Treuenbrietzen . On September 14, 1744 he became second Premier Lieutenant , later a captain and company commander . During the Seven Years' War on December 23, 1757 he became major and in 1758 the king appointed him commander of Grenadier Battalion No. 1. In 1759, von Carlowitz became chief of the Grenadier Battalion in Treuenbrietzen, which he remained until his death. In May 1762 he received the Pour le Mérite .

On May 24, 1765 he became a lieutenant colonel and in August 1767 a colonel. He died in 1771.

family

He was married twice. His first marriage was on July 10, 1739, Anna Katharina von Berg († May 14, 1753). She died giving birth to her 11th child. On July 11, 1756, he married Karoline Eleonore Friederike von Ende, daughter of Heinrich Friedrich von Ende from the Taubenheim family and Henriette Senfft von Pilsach . With her he had eight more daughters. Of the children who survived:
