Johann Kiemann the Elder

Johann Kiemann (around him with his son Johann Kiemann not be confused later, Johann Kiemann the Elder called * 21st October 1797 in Wallern ; † 18th April 1872 in Prague ) was an Austrian - Czech lawyer and politician German nationality , in the 1860s member of the Bohemian Landtag and the Imperial Council .

Life

Johann Kiemann was born on October 21, 1797 in Wallern as the son of the red tanner Peter Kiemann and his wife Agnes, b. Veit, born. He studied law at the University of Vienna , where he received his doctorate in 1825. In 1834 he became a country attorney in Bohemia . In addition to this activity, he concentrated on measurements of topographical altitudes in the area of ​​today's Czech Republic , the results of which the German non-fiction author Johann Gottfried Sommer used in his topographical works.

In addition, Kiemann took part in public life as a politician. During the revolution of 1848/1849 in the Austrian Empire , he was elected to the Austrian Reichstag in Vienna from his home constituency, Winterberg . In October 1848, during the second phase of the revolution, he left parliament and resigned in December. His successor was Jan Daniel Rozsypal (1819-1880).

Kiemann continued his academic career and was elected Dean of the Faculty of Law in Prague in 1850/51 . He also sat from 1851 to 1860 in the Prague City Council , where he had the position of a few years the city council held.

In the second half of the 1860s, as a member of the German Liberal Party , Kiemann began to be interested in state politics. During the elections in January 1867 his curia (electoral districts Winterberg, Prachatitz and Wallern) was elected to the Bohemian state parliament. In the new elections, which took place in March 1867, he was able to successfully defend his mandate. In the same year Kiemann was sent by the state parliament to the imperial Reichsrat. At that time the Reichsrat was not elected directly, but was made up of delegates from the individual state parliaments.

On April 18, 1872 Kiemann died suddenly in the park of the summer palace of Queen Anne in Prague. He collapsed during a walk and was instantly dead. He left behind his sons Johann, also a lawyer and politician, and Anton Kiemann , a Prague lawyer.
