Johann Ludwig Levin Gebhardi

Johann Ludwig Levin Gebhardi (born May 19, 1699 in Braunschweig , † November 10, 1764 in Lüneburg ) was a German regional historian and genealogist .

Life

Johann Ludwig Levin Gebhardi, the son of Johann Albrecht Gebhardi, the rector of the Martineum grammar school in Braunschweig, studied history and other sciences in Helmstedt, Jena and Halle. Nikolaus Hieronymus Gundling , Johann Peter von Ludewig and Burkhard Gotthelf Struve were among his academic teachers .

From 1727 he taught various subjects at the Knights Academy in Lüneburg, from 1746 mainly history. In total, Gebhardi taught at the Knight Academy for almost 40 years. He died in 1764.

Gebhardi's scientific works were respected in contemporary specialist circles. Above all, his genealogical work was valued, especially the explanations on the genealogy of imperial and royal houses in Europe , published in several parts since 1730 and later continued by his son Ludwig Albrecht Gebhardi . Of regional historical interest are z. B. his research on the Harzgau , the Duchess Agnes von Braunschweig and the Counts of Everstein and Blankenburg .
