Johann Stridbeck the Younger

Johann Stridbeck the Younger (* 1665 in Augsburg ; † December 19, 1714 there ) is a German draftsman , engraver and publisher .

Stridbeck grew up as the son of the engraver and publisher Johann Stridbeck the Elder († 1716) in Augsburg, where he learned and worked his handicraft. Father and son were the first major atlas publishers in German-speaking countries who produced many maps and topographical works. The joint work Curiose Staats und Kriegs Theatrum with engravings on current wars was successful .

He then worked in Frankfurt an der Oder (around 1691), Berlin (around 1690), Leipzig (around 1691) and Frankfurt am Main and later in Strasbourg (after 1700).

In 1691 in Frankfurt an der Oder he created S. Maria Kirck's pen drawing for Franck-Furt an der Oder. .

In Berlin, Stridbeck made 20 sketches of the city around 1690/1691, including a watercolor from Linden-Allee to Potsdamer Brücke (today: Unter den Linden ) in Dorotheen or Neustadt in front of the Tiergarten, one of the first pictures on this street. He also created watercolors from Cölln an der Spree . Some of his Breslau engravings have survived.

Stridbeck created many views of Leipzig, including the Thomaskirche , the Paulinerkirche , the Princely House of Leipzig and the Old Trading Exchange . A floor plan of Erfurt also dates from that time . He is said to have run his own publishing house in Leipzig.

He returned to Augsburg around 1700. He published here the book Different from this time occupations Laender, Gegenen, Staedte, Plaetze und Oerter .

From Bremen is contained in the engraved before 1712 map of Bremen, the engraver Caspar Schultze was acquired.

From Munich there is the work Theatrum of the noblest churches, monasteries, Pallaest and Gebeude in Churfürstlicher Resistentz city of Munich , with the most important baroque buildings, partly from a bird's eye view and with street representations, explanations and city maps as well as of the old south cemetery and its former cemetery church St. Stephan .

After his early death in 1717, the copperplate engraver Gabriel Bodenehr the Elder (1673–1765) from the engraver and printer family bought the copper plates.
