Johann von Waldow († 1423)
Johann von Waldow (also Johann the Elder von Waldow ) († 1423 in Fürstenwalde ) was from 1415 to 1420 as Johannes II. Bishop of Brandenburg and from 1420 to 1423 as Johannes V. Bishop of Lebus .
Life
Johann came from the noble family von Waldow . He studied at Charles University in Prague , where he obtained a baccalaureus in 1400. From 1402 he worked in the office of Margrave Jobst of Moravia , including in 1409 as a land clerk. In the same year he became archdeacon in Lebus, two years later provost of Berlin.
After the 1414 of Pope Gregory XII. Augsburg Bishop Friedrich von Grafeneck transferred to Brandenburg, and did not accept the diocese, in 1415 the Pope appointed Johann von Waldow Bishop of Brandenburg at the Council of Constance . At the same time he allowed him to use his previous benefices for seven years after his episcopal ordination. However, the episcopal ordination could not be confirmed by Pope Martin V until December 20, 1417 , since the Premonstratensian Nikolaus von Burgsdorff , who was elected by the cathedral chapter but not papally confirmed , could hold on until then .
In 1417/18 Johann von Waldow stayed again at the Council of Constance. As he continued to belong to the Prague rulers' office, he accompanied the Bohemian King Sigismund to Wroclaw in January 1420 to pay homage to the estates there.
When Pope Martin V transferred the Lubusz Bishop Johann von Borsnitz to Gran on March 29, 1420 , Johann von Waldow was chosen to succeed him in Lebus. In 1421, however, it was still documented in Brandenburg when it enacted a synodal statute. He came to Lebus only in 1422 and headed a diocesan synod in Fürstenwalde . There he issued a decree on the estates of pastors and confirmed the commemoration of the dead for priests. In the second half of 1423 he died on his bishopric in Fürstenwalde. His body was first buried in Fürstenwalder Dom and later transferred to the village church of Dannewalde. He was followed as Bishop of Lebus by his brother Johann of the same name , but who died a year later.
